ART STUDIO
Art studio classes are a cornerstone of the Classical Academy curriculum. Students explore a variety of mediums, watercolors, pastels, charcoal, clay, and more, while learning genres such as landscape, portrait, and still life. They study proportion, anatomy, light and shadow, perspective, and color theory, alternating between copying masterworks and drawing from real-life models, objects, and landscapes. It’s common to see students creating art outdoors or throughout the school hallways.
ART HISTORY
Art History classes enrich the Art Studio and History curricula by exploring art through the lens of culture and aesthetics. Students learn about different epochs, the lives of great masters, and the historical contexts in which art flourished—from 5th century Greece to 15th century Florence and beyond. Older students analyze and write about changing ideals of beauty and truth and the role of religion in art across the centuries.
MUSIC THEORY
Performance and Violin Ensemble
Children from Kindergarten to third grade explore music theory, rhythm, and ensemble playing, performing pieces from their piano lessons. Older students build skills in singing, solo and choral performance, and accompaniment while studying Western music from the Medieval to Romantic eras.
INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS
In addition to group music classes, K–3 students take weekly individual piano lessons, applying their skills in ensemble exercises and building a personal repertoire. Students in grades 4–8 may continue piano lessons based on progress and commitment.
The school celebrates student achievement with two annual recitals, where families enjoy students’ performances.
